What’s with AMERICAN IDOL?
I just watched the AI finals, Live from Kodak Theater, Hollywood. The most important night of the two finalists: Bo Bice & Carrie Underwood who rose from the 100,000 wanna-be’s. What makes this reality-based talent search unique is the genius creator: Simon Cowell. He is bluntly honest with a touch of necessary ego that constantly gets in conflict with his 2 co-judge, Randy Jackson’s unpredictable “dog-pound” alter ego and very appreciative & down to earth Paula Abdul (She wants everybody to win!). Plus the contestants who were handpicked by the three all over the towns in USA with occasional sit-ins by famous recording artists. To date, this 4th season is the most watched globally.
No, I don’t have a colonial mentality; I just hate lousy imitators specially when shown over national TV. I’m talking about our “me too” reality shows like: Star in a Million, Star Circle Quest, Pop Superstar, Star Dance, etc. I was never attracted about singing contests until lousy judges trying hard to imitate made me follow the original (Please don’t include F. Infante, he is original). Isn’t the best strategy to increase product or brand loyalty is tolerate and laugh at copycats? Besides, imitation is the best form of flattery! The most annoying part about these “me too’s” are the winners who won not because they sound similar to the original Peabo, Ingram or Dione, Carey, but because of their hounding and squealing fans who idolize the cutest, good-looking less talented crowd favorite. And yes, they are well rewarded too. Is’t this the concrete example of PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE? From Introduction, growth, maturity, and sales decline. Besides, TV is about sales and marketing. It’s just so frustrating that our primetime reality TV shows are not originally well crafted and takes the daily centerstage to most households. No wonder neighborhood conflicts are exciting to watch live. I just hope somebody produces another reality talent contest and will be titled: BAD JUDGEMENT!
So, I salute the creator of A.I. as the mother of all reality talent search. Next to this sucks!
The Facts:
Bo could have been the first rock singer to win in a female dominated contest.
Carrie is an All-American picture of an idol in USA.
And the newest American Idol is- Carrie Underwood.

Alternative Music/Christian Rock in Manila & Cebu
Brief Biography
Jars of Clay were the breakout band of the so-called alternative CCM movement of the '90s, scoring an enormous mainstream hit with their debut single "Flood." The group's lyrics may have been exclusively Christian, but their mostly acoustic music fit perfectly into the folky jangle pop wing of alternative rock radio, at the time a rarity on the contemporary Christian music scene. Not only did their success set the stage for breakthroughs by Christian bands like dc Talk and Sixpence None the Richer, but it's also difficult to imagine the later popularity of heavier, Christian-themed hard rockers like Creed and P.O.D. without Jars of Clay having established the viability of fusing spiritual themes with mainstream alternative rock sounds. As popular tastes shifted, Jars of Clay still commanded a sizable following among the youth and remained one of the highest-profile groups in any gospel-music subgenre.
